| William Dalton, P.O. Waukon, farmer,
sec. 22; was born in Penobscot, Maine, in 1834, his
parents moving to New Brunswick when he was about six
years old. While there he commenced learning the ship
carpenter's trade, and when about seventeen years old,
came to Chicago, Illinois, and worked at his trade there
about a year; thence to Grand Haven, Mich., remaining
some eight or ten months, after which he went to Green
Bay, Wis., where he engaged in lumbering till 1857, when
he came to Allamakee Co. and located on his present farm,
which now contains 425 acres, with good improvements and
pleasantly situated. His wife's name was N. Toole. She
was born in New Brunswick. They have seven children,
Mary, Elizabeth, Alice, Edward, Celia, Lyman, Nettie, and
have lost three, William, Catharine and Charles. Mr. D.
