| Naturalization of
Aliens State of Iowa Allamakee County Be it Remembered, That at the District Court held in Waukon, Allamakee county, ans State of Iowa, on the 9th day of September A.D. 1857, Michael Clark a Native of Ireland exhibeted a petition, praying to be admitted to become a Citizen of the United States, and it appearing to the satisfaction of the said Court, that he had declared on oath, according to the laws of the United States, two years previous to this date that it was his bona fide intention to become a Citizen of the United States, and to renounce forever, all allegieance and fidelity to every foreighn Prince, Potentate, State of Sovereignty whatsoever, and particularly the Queen of England of whom he was at that time a Subject and the said Michael Clark having on his solemn oath, in open court, declared, and also made proof thereof by competent testimony, that he had resided one year and upwards within the State of Iowa, and within the United States of America, upwards of five years immediately preceding his application; and it appearing to the satisfacrion of the Court that during that time he had behaved as a man of good moral character, attached to the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and happiness of the same; and having on his solemn oath, declared before said Court, that he would support the Constitution of the United States, and that he did absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign Prince, Power, Petentate, State and Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to The Queen of England of whom he was before a Subject. Therefore, the Court admitted the said Michael Clark to become a Citizen of the United States and ordered all the proceedings afore said to be entered on the record of the Court, which was accordingly done. In Testimony Whereof I, the undersigned, Clerk fo the Court aforesaid have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the District Court, to be hereunto annexed this 9th day of September A.D. 1857 signature of C.J.
