Immigrate - To enter and settle in a country or region to which one is not native
Emigrate - To leave one country or region to settle in another.
Migrate - To move from one country or region and settle in another.

The term migrate is generally used for people and animals. It sometimes implies a lack of permanent settlement, resulting from seasonal or periodic movement. Emigrate and immigrate are used only for people and imply a permanent move, generally across a political boundary. Emigrate describes the move relative to the point of departure, and immigrate describes the move relative to the destination

There is an original book of Allamakee County Court Naturalization records (1855-1857) in the archives of the Allamakee County Historical Society. I don't believe it has been indexed or transcribed - submitted by Jody Howard.
(access the Historical Soc. website from the Allamakee co. Local Resources page)
