As with any undertaking of the magnitude of Dale
Woodmansee's book "Allamakee County, Iowa Burial Grounds
1845-1988 ", there may be errors, conflicting
information or descrepancies. The information on this page has
been contributed by Allamakee County researchers. The intent is
to assist others by alerting them to possible errors, omissions
or descrepancies in the book; as well as providing additional
notes from the submitter.

notes: The obituary spells her name Saueressig rather
than the way the Woodmansee book spells it.
She was a single 25 year old woman who suffered from
epilepsy for 15 years. Therefore the "mother"
remark is probably not correct

-notes: The obituary in the Postville Herald in
1937 stated that he died in an automobile accident in
Harvard, Illinois and that a lot of local relatives were
driving to Harvard to attend the services. There's no
mention of his body being brought back to Postville for
burial.

-notes: Gerald Elisha Harris (30 Mar 1881 - 07 Sep 1928)
is buried at Minert Cemetery, Post Twp. He is buried in a
family plot with his father George Harris, mother Ella
Laughlin Harris, and brother Rodger Harris. The book has
omitted George, Ella, and Roger from Minert Cemetery and
incorrectly lists Gerald as "Gunhild E.
Harris".

-notes: This is Olga Isabel (nee Baker) Pfister (04 May
1905-28 Dec 1984). Her funeral was held in Postville and
her obit appeared in the Postville newspaper, but it
clearly states that she was buried in East Clermont
Cemetery, rural Postville. She was the wife of Frederick
Pfister whom she married 09 Mar 1930 at Decorah.

Schmidt, Emelia (nee Gassman)
-notes: She was the wife of Rev. Eugene Schmidt of St.
Paul's Lutheran church and had lived in Postville from
about 1913 until her death in 1923. There was a large
service in Postville after which her remains were taken
to Lena, Illinois (her home town) for burial.

-notes: Elisabeth (Drahn) Schroeder isn't buried in the
Postville cemetery. She is buried at St. John's Lutheran
Cemetery, Luana, Clayton County, Iowa with her husband
Carl J. Schroeder. My information shows her dates as
August 7,1847 - October 11,1925, which conflicts with the
Woodmansee data too. I have a picture of their
gravestone

-notes: Her maiden name was either Nancy Jane Stiles or
Nancy Jennie Stiles. She was the wife of James Gordon,
married 28 Jun 1860.
McGhee, Sophia Jennewine (1861-1883)

-notes: Death year is wrong. Sophia and James were
married 17 May 1885 in Jefferson Twp. She died 09 Mar
1893 in Waukon from perintonitis and was buried on 11 Mar
1893.
Reif, Anna Fischer (1868-1941) (Mrs.
John)
-notes: Anna Reif was born 28 Feb 1860 and died 15 Jul
1941. She never married; however, her mother's maiden
name was Fischer. Her father was John and an unmarried
brother John is reported to be in the same area of the
cemetery.
Waters, ? (1901 - 1901) (Dau. of Howard)
-notes: She was the daughter of Edward Waters and his
wife Anna K. Redhead. The dates match those given in
county birth/death records. She was a premature child who
lived only 4 days. Her younger
brother Howard is buried in the same area of the cemetery
- he died in 1915 at age 12 and is probably buried in the
same plot.
Wilder, Nora B.
1887-1968 (SLA FN Beedy)
-notes: I believe her name should be listed as Norma
instead of Nora. Allamakee County birth records list a Norma
Beedy born 03 Jun 1887 at Postville to Frederick N. Beedy
and his wife Frances Allen. The
social security death index lists a Norma Wilder (03 Jun
1887 - Mar 1968), last residence was Grants Pass,
Josephine, Oregon.

Danaher, Margaret, I do have a photo of
Margaret Danaher's tombstone and the dates on it are:
born Feb. 1814 & died June 22,1900. The 1814
doesn't look at all like an 1874, so maybe Mr.Woodmansee
or a helper transcribed it incorrectly from notes. She
was the wife of Thomas Danaher. Also.. Woodmansee
lists a Margaret Danaher: 1851 Apr
27 - 1925 Feb
13 AND a Margaret McLaughlin
(who was a Danaher) 1851 Apr
27 - 1925 Feb 13.
Kathy Maurer, who is descended from Marg. Danaher
McLaughlin pointed out they were one in the same.
One says DR (death record) and the other CR (church
record) so perhaps one identified her with her maiden
name? So I would say they are duplicates.

Danaher Schwarthoff. Her sister Catherine Danaher
Schwartzhoff was married to Christian Schwartzhoff,

were the daughters of James Joseph Danaher and Anna
Fitzgerald Danaher, both of whom are buried in that same
cemetery.

Kehrberg were husband and wife. Herman J. Kehrberg is a

cemetery. His son Emil James Garfield Kehrberg is on one
side of the four sided stone and Herman J. on the
opposite side. Herman's wife and Emil's mother was Bertha
Goettel Kehrberg and moved to western South Dakota
around 1905.

MARTEN, though a couple of the children's stones are
inscribed Martin. Johann Friedrich Marten was married to
Karoline Henriette Goettel, sister of Johann Gottlieb and
Julius C. Goettel. Charlotte Goettel Marten is a daughter
of Johann Gottlieb and Johane Louise Goettel and the wife
of Friedrich Carl Marten, son of Johann and Karoline.
HERRMANN MARTEN [1865] is a son of Charlotte and
Friedrich. On Charlotte's marker is also an inscription
for "KIND MARTEN Oct. 1876"...... translation =
Child Marten. This was also a child of Friedrich and
Charlotte. "Fran H. Martin" is actually FRANZ
HERMAN MARTEN, son of Ferdinand Marten [son of Johann and
Karoline] and Johanne Goettel [daughter of Johan and
Johane]. All the other children, Carl; Clara; Ida Cora;
John R. [1860-1862]; and H. Marie Marten are children of
Julius Carl Marten [son of Johann and Karoline] and
Bertha Therese Goettel [daughter of Wilhelm Goettel].
There is NO stone for John R. Martin with the life dates
of 1862-1881, nor do we have any family or church record
of a family member with those dates.

inscribed. Lena was the wife of Henry J. Steiber. Her
maiden name was Magdalene Luth, daughter of Christian
Luth and Dorothea Durat.
