Kelly has been reported missing in action since October 2nd in Holland. If any further details or other information is received you will be promptly notified. Signed J.A. Ulio, Adjutant General." Pfc. Daniel P. Kelly is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Kerndt Gustave Frederick Lansing Ensign, USNR. Killed in action August 2, 1942 aboard the destroyer Sims in the Coral Sea. Newspaper accounts stated "..the Sims sank with almost all of its men still on board, and with guns blazing fiercely until the ship, nearly broken in two settled below the surface." Ensign Kerndt received a posthumous award. Kneeskern James Postville US Army. Enlisted on June 27, 1941. He got his basic training at Camp Polk, La. and at Fort Custer, Michigan. He was with the first contingent of expeditionary forces sent to Iceland in January, 1942, serving there 20 months. He was sent to England, then France and was wounded August 28, 1944 while in action in France.
